This movie was made in 1987, Microsoft went public 1986. Amazon wasn’t even a vision back then. Boeing was respectable back then & McDonnell/Douglas wasn’t imploding things like they are today. Seattle followed Boeings every command like pawns. The 1980s was a great moment for Seattle to clean up its streets & present itself to the world & hope someone might notice. That moment came in 1990 when Seattle hosted the Goodwill Games, a big thing back then & the weather was perfect Larry King hosted the games & remarked after looking out the window of his studio, the sun setting behind the Olympic Mountains with a slight fog majestically colored from the sun, “look at that” Larry shouted LOOK AT THAT! Yesterday it was 96° & now its 69° just amazing it feels great looks beautiful i have never experienced this before ever, look at that!” And i guess people were looking. Seattle looks somewhat like it did in 1987, today it ranks as a World Class City for being a tourist destination, a business destination, expensive & unaffordable & that is no small accomplishment.

The bomb damaged building should have been preserved, rebuild at least partially to transform it in a memory museum about 2nd WW, the holocaust, the insanity of Hitler, etc... It's even more stupid that it could have displayed what is shown at the documentation center Obersalzberg just a few meters away ! The argument to avoid neo nazi pilgrimage is nonsense. The huge majority of people need to see physical elements of the past to believe that it did really happen. In a few decades and generations, Hitler, the holocaust, WW2 will be forgotten, and a nazi regime equivalent may reappear, unless preserved WW2 elements show that it did happen. Villa Marlier (Wanssee conference) was preserved and transformed into a museum for memory of Holocaust, most concentration camps are preserved to be visited, in France the village of Oradour where 2SS division Das Reich killed 642 civilians is preserved even in ruins, as it was partially burned in 1944... The worst is that the Eagle's nest was completely preserved to attract tourists so money. In 1952, the US authoritues destroyed it while at the same time the USA hired hypocritically lots of former nazi engineers like Von Braun (paperclip op) ! Maybe one day the Berghof will be rebuild, once now german authorities stop thinking erasing physical parts of History erase History itself

My elderly Grandmother and Great Uncle traveled with my Mother and I to LIbya via Germany (where had my wedding). Their first ever airplane flights . And the in Libya, the coup and they had to be evacuated by a no seats US military transport ! Bless them...they never complained at all. In those days of no cell phones or internet, it was scary because only BBC and VOA radio info.. People who were around to see the first flight by the Wright Brothers...and we took them to Europe and Africa ! They were troopers !! What "coup"...I guess no biggie to people who had lived through the turn of the century and two world wars and the great depression !! Fortunate me to have such people in my life. Thankfully the coup was not a crazy prolonged bloody mess.
